Using the GeoDirectory Social Importer, you can quickly import single pages and events from Facebook and listings from Yelp. Just enter your Facebook and Yelp API keys in the Social Importer option page, paste in the unique URL to import and click! Social Importer does the rest.

Core Functionality
The plugin eliminates manual data entry by fetching information from major social platforms.
-
Source Platforms: Supports Facebook (Pages and Events), Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business).
-
One-Click Import: Users simply paste a profile URL into the “Add Listing” form, and the plugin auto-populates the fields.
-
API-Less Parsing: For TripAdvisor and Yelp, the plugin uses a unique URL parsing method that often bypasses the need for complex API key setups.
Technical Specifications
| Feature | Details |
| Requirements | WordPress 4.7+ and the core GeoDirectory V2 plugin installed. |
| Data Mapping | Maps social data to GeoDirectory custom fields (Name, Address, Phone, Website, etc.). |
| Media Import | Pulls profile pictures, cover photos, and image galleries directly into the listing. |
| Business Hours | Automatically imports and formats complex “Opening Hours” data. |
| Geocoding | Extracts GPS coordinates or addresses to place pins on your directory map. |
| Social Posting | Can optionally post new listings back to Facebook or Google Business (requires API). |
Key Limitations & Constraints
It is important to understand what the plugin cannot do to manage expectations:
-
No Bulk Scraping: It is designed for “one-at-a-time” imports via a URL. It does not support bulk importing thousands of listings from social media in a single click (though you can still use GeoDirectory’s native CSV importer for that).
-
One-Time Sync: By default, it is an importer, not a live synchronizer. If a business changes its hours on Facebook, the listing on your site will not update automatically unless the import process is triggered again.
-
API Requirements: While some platforms work via URL parsing, Google Business Profile and certain Facebook posting features still require official API keys for security and authentication.
Why use it?
The main value proposition is conversion. If a business owner finds it too tedious to fill out a long “Add Listing” form, they are likely to abandon your site. Allowing them to just paste their Facebook URL and see their data instantly appear significantly increases the chances they will complete the submission.
