How It Works (Technical Flow)

The extension functions by adding a new field type to your Directory Builder.

  • Backend Setup: You go to the “Add Listing Form” in the Directory Builder and drag the “Multi-Directory Linking” field into the form.

  • Listing Submission: When a user (or admin) adds a listing, they will see a dropdown or selection box where they can search for and select listings from your other active directories.

  • Frontend Display: On the “Single Listing” layout, you add the “Linking” field to the content area. This creates a dedicated section (like a gallery or list) showing the connected profiles.

Technical Requirements

  • Parent Plugin: Must have the Directorist (Core) plugin installed (Free).

  • WordPress Version: 5.0 or higher.

  • PHP Version: 7.0 or higher.

  • Multi-Directory Feature: You must enable the “Multi Directory” setting in the core plugin settings (Directory Listings > Settings > Listings > General) for this extension to have multiple targets to link to.

Use Case Example: Medical Directory

  • Directory 1: “Hospitals”

  • Directory 2: “Doctors”

  • The Link: When viewing “City General Hospital,” the visitor sees a section titled “Available Specialists” which automatically lists all doctors linked to that hospital. Clicking a doctor’s name takes them to that doctor’s full profile in the other directory.
