The plugin works through a system of Triggers (the “When”) and Actions (the “Do”).
You can start an automation whenever specific ACF data is changed:
Post/Page Field Updated: Fires when a field on a specific post (or any post of a specific type) is modified.
User Field Updated: Fires when a field on a user’s profile is changed (e.g., a “Membership Level” or “VIP Status” field).
Term Field Updated: Fires when fields on categories or tags are updated.
Options Page Field Updated: Fires when a global setting in an ACF Options Page is changed.
You can also use the automation to change ACF data based on other events:
Update Post Field: Automatically change a custom field value (e.g., set a “Review Status” field to “Approved” when a user submits a form).
Update User Field: Update user metadata (e.g., add “Bonus Points” to a custom field when they finish a course).
Update Page/Term Field: Modify settings or metadata dynamically.
This is the “secret sauce.” You can use Tokens to pass data from an ACF field into other plugins.
Example: When a user updates their “Phone Number” ACF field, AutomatorWP can grab that specific value (the token) and send it to a CRM or an SMS notification service.
